Computer Science

COMPUTER SCIENCE

This program provides students with opportunities for advanced studies in information
technology and data science. The program is open to students who plan on pursuing
college degrees in preparation for careers as software engineers, systems analysts, web
developers, data scientists or other technology related specialties. Topics covered in the
program include: information systems and computer applications, problem solving and program
design, object-oriented design and programming using Java, data science and machine learning
using python and R, web site development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, and an
introduction to database design using SQL. The program also introduces current emerging
technologies as the field of computer science continues to expand. State-of-the-art equipment
and technology, multimedia applications, and high-speed Internet access are available to
students.

2 YEAR / 900 HOURS / TOMS RIVER

Articulation agreements with Ocean County College has been established to provide students with an opportunity to earn advanced college credit upon successful completion of this program. Recommended skills include a familiarity with desktop. computers and standard desktop applications like the Google Suite and Internet browsers.

Computer Systems Networking & Telecommunications

COMPUTER SYSTEMS NETWORKING & TELECOMMUNICATIONS

This program is suggested for high school and post-secondary students interested in pursuing a career within the Computer & Networking IT field to become a Computer Network Administrator/Engineer, Computer Network architect, Computer security specialists, Network and Computer Systems Administrators.

Computer IT Essentials: Students learn managing and troubleshooting PC’s and Apple computer systems, the visible PC, microprocessors (CPU), Ram, BIOS, motherboards, power supplies, hard drive technologies, removable media, installing and upgrading Windows, Linux, Mac OS, IOS, Android, command line interface, troubleshooting Windows, input devices, video cards (business and gaming), networking, LAN, wireless networks, internet, mobile devices, printers, securing computers and networks. Hands-on building and configuring complete computer systems with hands-on lab activities.

Network Support Technician: Students will learn the skills needed for entry-level networking careers. Students will learn concepts and topics including foundational knowledge and skills needed to show how networks operate, including the devices, media, and protocols that enable network communications.

Network Associate: Students will learn what it takes to navigate the ever-changing landscape of IT. Covers networking fundamentals, IP services, security fundamentals, automation and programmability. Recommended Skills: Basic computer skills and interest in Computer and Network technologies

Engineering Technology

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Engineering Technology is an authentic makerspace equipped with machinery used in industry, designed to meet the current and emerging workforce needs in the advanced manufacturing industry. Students in the program will explore the production of metal and plastic products through manual and automated processes. Completers of this program will acquire a diverse and well-rounded set of academic and technical skills that will prepare them to enter the workforce and/or college. Students interested in pursuing a degree in engineering will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of production machinery. This knowledge is valuable to aspiring engineers as they will possess a well-rounded understanding of the production process, allowing them to problem-solve and troubleshoot design challenges before they hit the production floor. We do this using project-based learning that will take the students through the prototyping and development process all the way through the production process. Areas of study include: Computer Numerical Control (CNC) theory/operations, interpreting engineering drawings, quality control, production planning, digital read-out skills, metal fabrication, GTAW (TIG) welding, GMAW (MIG) welding, precision measurement and analysis, manual machining operations, workplace safety (OSHA-10), Robotics, and 3D printing. Students can earn HAAS certification for basic mill operator. Recommended Skills: Basic computer skills, strong math and language skills.
