    OCVTS Summer 2020 Exploratory Camps

    Due to current health and safety guidelines related to the Coronavirus, all OCVTS camps have been canceled this summer.

    2020 Marine Science Summer Experience
    Experience Barnegat Bay and its watershed through this interactive field experience.

    Barnegat Bay Week Includes:
    Catch & Identify Barnegat Bay Organ-isms
    Birds, Reptiles and Marine Mammals
    Salt Marsh Ecology and Habitats
    Bottom-Dwelling Organisms (Benthos)
    Conduct Proper Sampling Methods including Seining on a Boat on Barnegat Bay
    Jenkinson’s Aquarium “Behind the Scenes Tour”

    Watershed Week Includes:
    Cultural and Natural Aspects of the Pine Barrens
    Freshwater Sampling and Organisms
    Causes and Ways to Improve Human Impacts on the Barnegat Bay Ecosys-tem
    Wildlife and Freshwater Fish
    Kayak on a Bay Tributary
    Nature Trails and Fire Ecology

    Who Should Apply?
    Students who are presently enrolled in grades six ,seven and eight who
    have a serious interest in marine and environmental science. This
    competitive program is limited to 25 students per week.


    Dates of the MATES Summer Experience

    All times are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM

    Session 1: July 13—16 (Watershed)
    Session 2: July 20—23 (B. Bay)
    Session 3: July 27—30 (Watershed)
    Session 4: Aug. 3—6 (B. Bay)

    PERFORMING ARTS

    CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC
    The Performance Workshop Summer 2020

    PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS IN AUDIO ENGINEERING, THEATRE, VOCAL MUSIC, & DANCE

    FOR STUDENTS ENTERING:
    GRADES 6-8 (LEVEL 1) GRADES 9-12 (LEVEL 2)

    This two-week workshop provides an opportunity for aspiring young artist to strengthen their area of specialty – Dance, Voice, Acting or Audio Engineering.

    Each day begins with an intense session in the major area of study. A half hour lunch break is
    followed by two, 45 minute workshops in the other two specialties. Through exposure to these
    four performing arts disciplines, the student has the opportunity to improve as a well-rounded
    young performer. Our students will develop an appreciation for each art form. The last day of the workshop is a day of performance. Parents and friends are invited!


    Who Should Apply?
    Students who are presently enrolled in fifth through eleventh grades who have a serious interest in the performing arts in either acting, voice , dance or audio engineering should apply. This is a competitive program and space is limited.

    CULINARY ARTS

    CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC
    2020 Summer Exploratory Culinary Camp

    Looking for participants ages 12-15 to enjoy an immersive culinary experience!
    Participants will work alongside our expert chef instructors to develop culinary skills as well as kitchen operations.

    CULINARY CLASSICS
    This program will include kitchen safety, culinary equipment operation,
    searing, sautéing, seasoning, sauce making, braising,
    brining, roasting and pastas.

    FUN WITH BAKING AND PASTRY
    This program will include kitchen safety, culinary equipment operation,
    and the study of ingredients and mixing methods for producing various baked goods
    such as artisan doughnuts, éclairs, cream puffs, international bread baking, puff pastry
    makeup techniques and pastry basics.

    CAKE BAKING AND DECORATING
    In this program students will prepare icings, assemble and ice simple layer cakes and
    retail style cakes, learn how to create borders, leaves, vines and icing flowers, and
    make and use a paper decorating cone for inscriptions and decorations.

    Who Should Apply?
    Students 12-15 years of age. Participants will work alongside our expert chef instructors to develop culinary skills as well as kitchen operations.

    S.T.E.M CAMP

    CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC
    2020 S.T.E.M Camp

    Ocean County Vocational Technical School is offering a STEM Summer Camp for students ages 12 / 15 years of age.  Participants will work alongside our field experienced instructors to develop design layout and fabrication skills.  Both camps will be an unforgettable opportunity!  Students will work individually and in teams on STEM projects they can take home on the last day.

    Build a Race Car (July 6th – 9th and July 20th – 23rd)
    This four-day camp will include an introduction to the drill press, vertical band saw, and various hand tools to design, build and race a small car!

    Girls’ Week Out ( July 13th – July 16th and July 27th – 30th)
    During this four-day camp, participants will have an opportunity to design and fabricate a container for lip balm.  As an added bonus, they will create their own lip balms to fill the containers with!
