    Glen Speidel, of Brick, was recognized by the Ocean County Foundation for Vocational Technical Education, for his outstanding commitment and hard work as an Apprenticeship Electricity student over the past four years. OCVTS Assistant Superintendent Nancy Weber-Loeffert presented Mr. Speidel with his award at the recent Apprenticeship Ceremony.
    Ocean County Foundation for Vocational Technical Education members Nancy Weber-Loeffert and Maureen Stankowitz presents Outstanding Student Award to Electricity graduate Daniel Hankins, of Beachwood.  


    OCEAN COUNTY, NEW JERSEY -The Ocean County Vocational Technical School’s Apprenticeship Trades Certificate Awards Ceremony, held recently at Mancini Hall at the Ocean County Library, Toms River recognizes the hard work of tradespeople who complete the rigorous four year apprenticeship training programs. The OCVTS apprenticeship programs require students to attend 576 hours of trade-related classroom instruction while logging 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with an employer who sponsors the student, over the course of four years.

    It was standing room only as family and friends gathered for the ceremony, led by OCVTS Adult Education Principal and Apprenticeship Coordinator Mary Beatty-Sharisky. Seventy-two graduates celebrated the completion of apprenticeship training in the Electricity; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R); Plumbing; Machine Trades and Maintenance Mechanic programs. The graduates received certificates of completion from Ocean County Vocational Technical School. Some of the graduates have attained registered apprentice status through the United States Department of Labor.

    Several students were recognized for their outstanding academics as well as on-the-job performance. Representing the Ocean County Foundation for Vocational Technical Education, members Maureen Stankowitz and Nancy Weber-Loeffert presented Outstanding Student Awards to Electricity graduate Daniel Hankins, of Beachwood; HVAC-R graduate Roman Robles-Garcia, of Manahawkin; Machine Trades graduate Paul Soucy, of Beachwood; Maintenance Mechanic graduate James Mathis, of Tuckerton; and Plumbing graduate Jordan Pergerson, of Toms River.

    Both Machine Trades graduate Barry Hayes, of Shrewsbury and Plumbing graduate Scott McCutchan, of Brick received the ‘Vocational Educational Commitment Award’, in honor of Bruce B. Beatty, Professional Engineer, presented to him by Ocean County Freeholder Director Virginia E. Haines. Mr. Hayes and Mr. McCutchan, along with Plumbing graduate Joseph Caruso, of Jackson; and HVAC-R graduate Gabriel Matthews, of Howell received Special Community Service Awards, sponsored by Sidney Finkelstein, P.A. Electricity graduate Michael Pasternak, of West Creek, received honors for Perfect Attendance throughout the four year program, also sponsored by Sidney Finkelstein, P.A.

    In attendance for the ceremony were Ocean County Chosen Freeholder Director Virginia E. Haines; Assistant Director New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Office of Apprenticeship Nicolas Toth; Apprentice and Training Representative US Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship John Martinez; Vice President OCVTS Board of Education Stephen Scaturro; OCVTS Board of Education and OCVTS Foundation member Maureen Stankowitz; OCVTS Foundation member Nancy Weber-Loeffert; OCVTS Acting Superintendent Karen Homiek; and OCVTS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael B. Maschi.
