OCVTS Students Assist In Rain Barrel Challenge
    Jean Sullivian, April 5, 2013

OCVTS Collision Repair students applied a weather-proof protective coating to the beautifully decorated rain barrels.

JACKSON, NEW JERSEY Students from the Ocean County Vocational technical School's Collision Repair Program put the finishing touches on 22 rain barrels as part of the Barnegat Bay Blitz Rain Barrel Challenge. The Barnegat Bay Blitz is a collaboration of residents, students, businesses and local governments to protect and preserve Barnegat Bay and the surrounding 660 square mile watershed. Volunteers targeted over 200 cleanup locations this past fall.

Schools which participated in the Blitz were then eligible to sponsor a 50 gallon rain barrel to decorate as part of the Challenge. Schools received a rain barrel and it was up to students to design and paint the barrel. Once the rain barrels were painted, they were transported to the OCVTS Jackson Center where Collision Repair students applied a clear-coat weather-proof protective finish. The rain barrels can be viewed on the Barnegat Bay Blitz website. The barrels will be distributed throughout the Barnegat Bay watershed area to promote awareness about storm water, water pollution and water conservation.
