NEW GRETNA, NJ Ocean County Vocational Technical School offers students career-related experience in the workplace through the cooperation of businesses and professionals throughout our communities. Partnership agreements with hundreds of businesses and organizations allow OCVTS students to gain practical experience and advance their skills through initiatives such as Cooperative Education, apprenticeships, job shadowing and facility tours.

One of the longest standing partnerships in place is with Viking Yachts in New Gretna, New Jersey. The company which was founded in 1964 is a world leader in fiberglass yacht production. For forty years, Viking Yacht has been a strong supporter of OCVTS, providing employment opportunities for well over one hundred Cooperative Education students,

as well as numerous graduates that have procured employment with the company in areas such as carpentry, cabinetmaking, electrical wiring, welding and research and development. Viking Yacht also supports many OCVTS programs by donating supplies and equipment, offering scholarship money, serving on the OCVTS General Advisory Committee and over the years has allowed over 4,ooo students to tour their state-of-the-art facilities.

Students from the Custom Cabinetmaking Program recently toured Viking Yacht and saw first-hand how the skills they learn at OCVTS can lead to careers. Many of the students were impressed with the quality of craftsmanship that is involved with the custom cabinetry and woodwork found in the luxury yachts. From a lumber supply that would rival a local warehouse store, to the state-of-the-art computerized equipment, to discussions with master craftsmen, the tour showed the building of a yacht from concept to completion.
