    OCVTS Culinary Arts Program to be Featured on Classroom Close-up

    Pastry Arts students from the Culinary Arts program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School will be featured in an upcoming televised segment of Classroom Close-Up, NJ, which features innovative educational programs in New Jersey public schools.

    A film crew spent the day at the OCVTS Brick Center as Pastry Arts Instructor Chef Dennis Melia and baking technicians from Dawn Foods presented a workshop on pastry doughs and fillings. Dawn Foods has established a strong mentoring program with OCVTS students. The company supplies products and instructional staff for workshops throughout the year.

    Pastry Arts is one element of the two-year OCVTS Culinary Arts program for high school students which also includes food preparation, dining room service and management tasks involved in the food service industry.

    Classroom Close-up, NJ is a production of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) and airs on NJTV every Sunday at 6:30AM, 12:30PM and 7:30PM and on Saturday at 5:30AM. This segment entitled Pastry Arts will air on February 24, March 2, March 31 and April 6. Check your local television guide for the NJTV channel.
