OCVTS PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY PRESENTS BYE, BYE BIRDIE
    Jean Sullivian, March 13, 2009

OCEAN COUNY, NEW JERSEY- Students from the Performing Arts Academy presented “Bye Bye Birdie” at the Strand Theater, in Lakewood, on March 26, 27 and 28th.

This musical comedy portrays a rock and roll star Conrad Birdie, as he bids farewell to his fans before joining the US Army. As a publicity ploy, Conrad’s agent arranges a contest to choose one swooning teenage fan whom Conrad will embrace in a farewell kiss live on the Ed Sullivan Show. The play provides insight into the ups and downs of life regardless of your claim to fame.

The March 26 dress rehearsal matinee was open to senior citizens at a special discount ticket price which included a light lunch. Students from the OCVTS Adult Culinary Arts program prepared lunch for 700 guests who attended the performance. The Friday and Saturday evening shows were also very well attended.

The production included a fourteen-piece orchestra conducted by PAA Vocal Instructor Mary Huhmann, and a cast and production crew of over eighty students.
