    NJR Job Shadowing Recognition Breakfast
    Jean Sullivian, May 21, 2009

BRICK, NEW JERSEY-Students from the Ocean County Vocational Technical School’s (OCVTS) Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) program attended the annual Recognition Breakfast for the New Jersey Resources (NJR) Job Shadowing Program last week at the OCVTS Brick Center. New Jersey Resources supplies natural gas resources to New Jersey residents. Throughout the year, NJR subsidiary, NJR Home Services, provided job shadowing opportunities for 41 HVAC-R students. Job shadowing allows students to experience the day to day activities of service technicians and gain an understanding of the demands and expectations of their chosen career field.

During the breakfast each student received a certificate of participation from Mr. Gerald T. DeToro, President and General Manager of NJR Home Services and President of the NJR Plumbing Services Division. Mr. De Toro spoke highly of the students’ dedication and praised them for taking full advantage of the opportunities offered to them.

The job shadowing program began five years ago and has resulted in the full-time employment of several OCVTS graduates. HVAC-R Instructor Robert Doherty noted, “The NJR Job Shadowing Program has helped my students make career choices. The program gives my students an advantage because after the completion of the HVAC program they have two years of documented Internship that is looked upon as work experience.”
