ADMISSIONS
ALPS is a competitive program offered through the Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) that accepts applications from eighth-grade students who are considered residents of Ocean County. There are three information sessions in the fall and all inquiries about ALPS are handled through our OCVTS admissions office only.
ABOUT ALPS
The Academy of Law & Public Safety (ALPS) is designed to provide a unique and comprehensive foundation of knowledge, skills and professional ethics for Ocean County students interested in pursuing careers in law and public safety. The academy offers a rigorous educational program while integrating the latest technology related to criminal justice. Students have the opportunity to earn over 24 college credits through our Ocean County College embedded, dual-enrollment courses. Graduates can earn credentials to include Emergency Medical Dispatch, Basic Telecommunicator, CPR and Special Law Enforcement Officer Class I Certification. ALPS graduates have been hired and/or are currently employed with over 30 New Jersey Police Departments, NJ Departments of Correction, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, and many have served in the U.S. military.

Student life at ALPS is incredibly supportive. Our teachers develop caring relationships with our students, allowing for the adaptation of curricula to meet the social, emotional and educational needs of everyone. Our student experience is enriched by student clubs, organizations, and volunteer opportunities.

ALPS
LAW ENFORCEMENT / HOMELAND SECURITY / PUBLIC SAFETY
ALPS is a specialized high school developed around the law and public safety theme. ALPS is geared toward students who wish to concentrate their studies in the areas of law enforcement, homeland security and public safety. This full-time educational program provides a challenging, hands-on learning experience for college-bound and career-oriented students.
The Mission of ALPS
The mission of the Academy of Law and Public Safety is to provide a rigorous college-prep, theme-based curriculum in conjunction with community and higher education partnerships. Ocean County students acquire knowledge, skills and professional ethics while utilizing the latest technology related to criminal justice.
School Background
The Academy of Law & Public Safety (ALPS) is one of the career academies administered by the Ocean County Vocational Technical School District. The shared-time Law & Public Safety program was established in 2001, offering a unique and comprehensive foundation of skills for Ocean County students interested in pursuing a career in public safety. The 2015-2016 school year launched the Academy of Law & Public Safety as a full-time rigorous, college-preparatory educational program for high school juniors and seniors, providing a challenging, hands-on learning experience for college-bound and career-oriented students. As of September 2018 ALPS is now a full-time, four-year high school academy.
ALPS graduates have been hired and/or are currently employed with over 30 New Jersey Police Departments, NJ Departments of Correction, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, and many have served in the United States Military.

Located in Waretown, New Jersey, ALPS is centrally located to the south of New York City, north of Atlantic City, and east of Philadelphia.

ALPS Admissions
Student Selection & Admissions
Students are selected through a competitive application process and enter at the ninth-grade level. Applicants must reside in Ocean County to be eligible for admission. All school districts in Ocean County are eligible to participate in sending applications to the program.
Middle School Students And Parents/Guardians Are Encouraged To Attend A Fall Admissions Information Session.
